Getting your greens is something you know you should do, and these terrific green smoothie recipes taste so good that your taste buds will be begging for more! I know that sometimes the taste can be rather grassy, especially if you include lots of kale in your green smoothie. I love to pack my smoothies with kale and other greens, but my husband does not, so I have modified and come up with a solution that leaves him happy while he gets his greens!  I can make mine with all of the kale I want! It’s a win win!

Since we often drink our healthy green smoothie recipes for breakfast, it is important that we include plenty of protein to carry us through the morning. I use greek yogurt in my husband’s smoothie because he does not care for the taste of protein powders. Greek yogurt is high in protein and low in sugar, and the fruit flavoring adds a bit more sweetness to his smoothie. I never add sugar because I think the fruit makes it plenty sweet. The greek yogurt, combines with the banana and berries makes a sweetness that pleases his palate.

I can’t have dairy, so I use a clean protein powder in my green smoothie so that my blood sugar stays nice and steady. It is also a great meal to have right after my morning workout since the green smoothie recipe contains so many vitamins and minerals to replenish my body, plus a healthy dose of protein to restore and build my muscles. My body craves the energy provided by the many needed nutrients and I feel great about feeding myself the fuel I need for a great and productive day! I think that my green smoothie is the best green smoothie recipe ever!! Haha! What do think?

Green Smoothie Recipes

Kale Smoothie

What you need:

  • A good blender
  • 1 scoop greens powder- This is optional, but I love the added nutrition that makes all of the other healthful food choices of the day just icing on the cake.
  • 2 to 3 handfuls of fresh baby kale – I like to cram as much as I can into mine. I really do like the flavor, and I am in love with the health benefits. It floods my body with health and vitality, and I never want to be without it.
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen berries of your choice. I like to use half strawberries and half blueberries for their taste and nutrition benefits. They are also low on the glycemic scale, so that is a plus if you are watching your sugar intake.
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder. Again, I choose a brand that contains no sugar or artificial sweeteners and that is also clean from heavy metals.
  • 1/2 to 1 cup Almond milk,or milk product of your choice, depending upon your preference of liquidity.

To Make:

Put the ingredients in your blender in the following order.

  • Kale
  • Frozen bananas
  • Frozen berries
  • Protein powder
  • Greens powder
  • Almond milk

Blend well and enjoy!

Fruity Green Smoothie with Greek Yogurt

This is the smoothie that my less adventurous family members will drink without complaint. That means it actually tastes delicious!!!

What you need:

  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen berries of your choice. I use a mix of strawberries and blueberries most of the time, or whatever I have on hand
  • 1 scoop greens powder ( this is my little secret, haha)
  • I handful spinach leaves
  • 1 individual tub favored greek yogurt – the protein replaces the protein powder if you want.
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup orange juice

Put the ingredients in your blender in the following order.

Spinach

Frozen banana

Frozen berries

Greens powder

Yogurt

Orange juice

Blend well and enjoy!

I love to pour my green smoothies recipes into a pretty, clear glass, and drink them with a fat straw. It seems like I am drinking my favorite milkshake, yet is packed with nutrition!
