Sugar is found in all fruit, in milk, in dressings, and especially in restaurant foods. Be careful when you’re shopping and see a food marked nonfat or low fat, because often times, these foods are loaded with extra sugars to make up for the lack of flavor from the fat! When you are buying foods for the week, stick to natural, whole foods that do not contain chemicals and have not been processed. The less that is done to the food before you eat it, the less likely it is that sneaky sugars have been added! Your body needs the vitamins and antioxidants found in fruits, but you want to be careful with how much fruit you consume simply due to the fact that fruit contains sugar! A good rule of thumb is to eat one piece of fruit at a time, or consume about 1/4 cup of your favorite fruits for a proper serving size. At the store, stick to buying fruits that are naturally lower sugar than others. Fruits that contain the least amount of sugars are strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, green apples, grapefruit, lemon, tomatos, and cantaloupe. Eating more of these fruits in place of those with higher sugar count, such as red apples, pineapple, mango, and bananas, will help you to get in those essential vitamins and nutrients found in fruit without sacrificing your weight loss! So if you’re looking for some quick weight loss, foods containing sugar are the first to go. There’s no quicker way to lose 10 pounds fast than cutting out the sugars!

TIP #2: Eat more protein!!!

If you are wanting to fire up your metabolism and lose weight fast, you absolutely have to consume the proper amount of protein for your body! A gram of protein not only contains less calories than a gram of fat, but it also feeds your muscles so that they can grow. If you are working out, you will need to consume more protein in order to repair and build your muscles after fatiguing them in the gym. Your muscles require energy, so the more muscle you have, the higher the rate at which your body burns calories becomes. This is called your metabolic rate. If your metabolic rate is 2000, meaning you burn 2000 calories per day simply by existing, you can maintain your weight by consuming 2000 calories per day. However, if you want to lose weight, you would have to cut back on your caloric intake in order to create a calorie deficit. The great thing is, exercise burns off calories too, so instead of cutting caloric intake, you can up your exercise! Let’s say you lift weights for 45 minutes and burn an extra 300 calories. Now you keep consuming 2000 calories per day, but after burning off 300, you’re left with only 1700 calories for the daily total! What’s even better? The more muscle you build, the higher your resting metabolic rate becomes. What does that mean for your weight loss? Now, your body burns more without working out. Let’s say it has increased by 200 calories burned per day. With your diet and exercise, you’ve just put yourself at a 500 calorie deficit every singe day! When you consume the right, nutritious foods for those calories, you will watch as the weight falls off!

TIP #3: Don’t stress!!!

Stressing out releases the hormone called cortisol, which tells the body to hold onto fat! That is NOT what you are going for here. Cortisol especially causes your body to hold onto belly fat, which can really sabotage your weight loss goals. Okay we get it, stress is counterproductive for weight loss and. What can we do about it?? You won’t be able to avoid every stressful situation for the rest of your life! Sometimes deadlines, relationships, or big projects can get to you and cause you to stress. Whenever you feel yourself getting overwhelmed or stressed, take a moment for yourself and close your eyes. Touch the pointer fingers together with your thumbs. Take a slow, deep breath in as deeply as you can. Release the breath with a huge, sighing exhale, and imagine all of your worries falling away with the breath. You can also perform this centering breath by exhaling through the nose. Do three rounds of normal breath, breathing regularly, then repeat this centering breath a total of three times. Open your eyes, and handle the task ahead of you with a clear and focused mind.
