Starbucks Frappuccino

starbucks frappuccino, kandee johnsonThe Starbucks Frappuccino menu is huge! Including the seasonal drinks, the Starbucks Frappuccino menu has a grand total of 50 items, most of which have a calorie count that may surprise you.

In case you didn’t know, the word “Frappuccino” is an invention of the Starbucks company, a combination of the words “frozen cappuccino.” It all started, however, in Los Angeles in the summer of 1993. And… Starbucks was not where the idea originated. It was a hot summer in L.A., and a district manager of several stores in the area noticed that some smaller local shops were serving some type of blended frozen coffee drinks, and decided it was something she wanted to try in her stores.

Fast-forward to 1995, and even though it was only offered in 2 flavors – Coffee, and Mocha – Starbucks launched the Frappuccino nationwide. They expected to sell a total of around 100,000 drinks the first week, but they sold 200,000; then on week 2 they sold 400,000, and on week 3 they sold 800,000! Not only did the Starbucks Frappuccino turn out to be a hit, it actually changed the trajectory of the ENTIRE company! It brought in new customers who were not normally coffee drinkers, and filled its stores in the afternoons and during warm weather when coffee business was typically and historically slow. Then they started bottling it, and the rest is history!

Best Starbucks Frappuccino

So, when you walk into your friendly neighborhood Starbucks to order yourself a creamy, frozen, delicious Frappuccino, there are so many choices that it can be very overwhelming. Well, lucky for you Starbucks recently sponsored a “Starbucks Frappuccino Flav-Off,” in which they collected 1.4 million votes for customers’ favorite Frap flavors. Any one of these would be a great place to start! So without further ado, here are the winners (drum roll, please!):

1 – Caramel Cocoa Cluster Frappuccino Blended Coffee Beverage

“A blend of toffee nut syrup, Frappuccino® Roast Coffee, milk and ice and topped with a layer of dark caramel sauce, finished with whipped cream and a drizzle of mocha sauce”

This one is NOT one of the 50 listed on the official Starbucks Frappuccino menu – it’s “officially” on their so-called secret menu. But it was ranked #1 by 1.4 million customers, so I’d say the secret’s out! There’s not an official calorie count, but it’s probably pushing 500, most definitely more than 400.

2 – Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino Blended Coffee Beverage

“A blend of cinnamon dolce syrup, white chocolate mocha sauce, vanilla bean, Frappuccino® Roast Coffee, milk and ice, finished with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon dolce topping”

One of the top choices on the ACTUAL menu, this one packs a pretty good calorie punch – 510 of them, with 85 grams of sugar! No wonder it’s a favorite…

3 – Cupcake Frappuccino Blended Créme Beverage

“A blend of vanilla bean, hazelnut syrup, milk and ice, finished with whipped cream”

Cupcake flavored frozen coffee? Yep, and people apparently love it! It’s still 420 calories, and 65 grams of sugar, but it’s a treat, you know. I mean, hopefully you’re not drinking one of these things every day! (…are you?!)

Every Starbucks Frappuccino is not high-calorie, coma-inducing-sugar-level concoction, so here’s a chart with ALL 50 official Starbucks Frappuccino menu items (and their calorie counts), for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy!
