Starbucks Nutrition Facts

starbucks nutrition facts, kandee johnsonThere are so many options at Starbucks that trying to address all Starbucks Nutrition Facts in one place is a little daunting. And you probably wouldn’t want to read every description on every drink they offer and all about how healthy or unhealthy each one is for you anyway!

So here’s what we’re going to do: What do most people order when they go into a Starbucks? I’d say the most common order is some kind of espresso drink, whether hot or cold – right? So let’s look at some of the most commonly ordered espresso drinks, and get you some info on the nutrition (in other words – are they good for you, or terrible, or somewhere in-between?).

First, let’s look at a regular Grande Latte. A simple drink, very popular, and delicious! Officially, it’s called a Café Latté, and here’s what you need to know:

Starbucks Grandé Café Latté

Calories 190 Calories from Fat 60
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 7g 11%
Saturated Fat 4.5g 22%
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 30mg 10%
Sodium 150mg 6%
Total Carbohydrate 18g 6%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Sugars 17g
Protein 12g

This info is based on using whole milk, which is how Starbucks makes all their drinks unless you ask for 2% or skim. Although, most of the time they won’t even have 2% available.

Now comes the problem: how many of us actually order a latté with no other flavoring? I’d say a very small percentage! Because why order Starbucks drink with no flavoring, right? But that’s where we get into trouble – and by trouble, I mean calories! Remember that in a day, your total caloric intake for a healthy diet for a healthy person that does a normal amount of activity should be around 1800 for girls, 2000 for guys.  This is a whole different discussion that could take pages, but your metabolism might be higher or lower than that, so 1800 – 2000 IS NOT A RULE. It’s just a guideline, and a very generalized one at that.

So how about those amazing flavored drinks from Starbucks? Well, here’s one that’s always a favorite around the fall and wintertime everywhere – the Pumpkin Spice Latté!

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latté

Calories 420 Calories from Fat 160
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 18g 28%
Saturated Fat 10g 50%
Trans Fat 0.5g
Cholesterol 60mg 20%
Sodium 220mg 9%
Total Carbohydrate 52g 17%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Sugars 50g
Protein 14g

Wow, that’s a lot of calories – 420! If you’re sticking with an 1800 calorie day, that’s over 20% of your calories! Plus, 52g of carbs is huge. This drink, although delicious, will not help you lose weight, that’s for sure! It’s a bummer too, because it’s great.

Here are the Starbucks nutrition facts for the famous…

Starbucks Caramel Macchiato

Calories 270 Calories from Fat 90
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 11g 17%
Saturated Fat 6g 30%
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 30mg 10%
Sodium 135mg 6%
Total Carbohydrate 34g 11%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Sugars 32g
Protein 10g

One of THE most popular drinks on the menu, and I’m actually surprised that this calorie count is only 270. That’s a Grandé, with whole milk. If you order it with skim, that takes it down to 190 calories, but current studies say that your overall health is better if you avoid low-fat options, generally speaking. I have to say I’ve joked about that one happening for years, but it actually did! Doctors now say eating low-fat is worse for your health than a more balanced approach.

Anyway, what’s next? How about an iced treat…

Starbucks Iced Salted Caramel Mocha

Calories 340 Calories from Fat 130
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 15g 23%
Saturated Fat 9g 45%
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 45mg 15%
Sodium 240mg 10%
Total Carbohydrate 47g 16%
Dietary Fiber 3g 12%
Sugars 40g
Protein 7g

340 calories is a lot, but 47g of carbs is HUGE. I’m not sure any of these are really worth the calories, unless you just really want an unbelievably sweet drink, and you don’t care about the nutritional value of what you eat! Listen to what Starbucks says about this one:

“We combine espresso & milk with mocha sauce & toffee nut flavored syrup. And if that wasn’t sweet enough, we top it off with sweetened whipped cream, caramel sauce & a mixture of turbinado sugar & sea salt for the best of both worlds.”

So much sugar! We have gotten to the point that if it doesn’t have crazy amounts of sugar, it doesn’t sell, which is why there is so much obesity in America.

Starbucks does offer some great-tasting options that aren’t loaded with sugar – here is one of my favorites:

Starbucks Café Americano

Nutrition Facts Per Serving (16 fl oz)
Calories 15 Calories from Fat 0
% Daily Value*
Total Fat 0g 0%
Saturated Fat 0g 0%
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 0mg 0%
Sodium 15mg 1%
Total Carbohydrate 3g 1%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Sugars 0g
Protein 1g

Of course, it’s not flavored, has no milk, and no sugar! But add a packet of Sugar in the Raw and a little milk and it tastes awesome, and has that kick that will get you started in the morning! And, it’s WAY healthier for you than most of their sweet, syrupy offerings.

So as you look at the Starbucks menu to choose your morning pick-me-up, consider Starbucks nutrition facts as well as the taste, and order something that’s not going to work against your healthy diet.

Live healthy!
